A Rainy Thursday
This morning, I took the dogs out for their morning walk. It was sprinkling a little when we first left the apartment, but that turned into rain as we kept on. I enjoyed the refreshing coolness and got a kick out of the dogs tiptoeing in the grass! It made me miss the occasional run in the rain that I so cherished back in San Antonio. (I'm still waiting on a stress fracture from June to heal. Might go faster if I could just sit still, but I don't see that happening!) Came in, dried off the pups, and poured a LARGE cup of coffee! Put a roast and some vegetables together in the slow cooker, and I've been smelling that deliciousness all day long!
Talked to Tanner for a good long while last night. What a great conversation! He told me what was on his mind and heart, and I told him what was on mine. (It's a true blessing when your babies grow up to be your friends!) He actually encouraged me with a very specific comment about some direction I was considering. Wow! Talk about the Holy Spirit speaking - and right through my son! It hit me hard - in a good way - and I can't stop thinking about it. So thank you, Tanner! Good stuff!
We're having guests over on Sunday evening for chili and pumpkin spice cupcakes. The cool weather here has really inspired me! I LOVE fall - the colors, the tastes, the spirit of thanksgiving, the invigorating coolness of the air!
So on this rainy day, I enjoyed the Word as I sipped that big ol' cup of coffee, prayed for my friends, thanked God for His wonderfulness and His many good ways, and then hopped up to get a little work done for the weekend's guests and for my honey.
When it's damp and dark and gloomy outside, I want him to come home to a retreat, a refuge from the world outside. When he walks in the door, the lights will be burning, a candle will be spicing up the air, the smell of roast will be competing with the candle :), and I'll be here to kiss him "Hello!" He'll close the door, and all that's heavy and worrisome and troubling will be banished to the outside. The Lord dwells here, and He will rule our evening. The rain may fall outside, but God's light shines in this place!
*Changed the format of this blog because of the fall colors!
