Just for Today…

Hey, friend. I see you over there – struggling to keep your head above water, sinking under the anxiety of what may come tomorrow. Gentle reminder - you don’t own tomorrow, and unless God wills it, you never will. Jesus tells us “…Don’t worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.” (Matthew 6:34) His wise advice? Don’t go borrowing trouble.

What you do possess is today – a gift from God. No matter how bleak the next 24 hours may seem, you have a beating heart and breath in your lungs because He has some things He wants you – His beloved child - to know. They don’t apply to yesterday. They don’t apply to tomorrow. They only apply to today. And like sweet flakes of manna in the desert, they’re meant to be received and ingested to nourish your soul right now.

Just for today, remember that God values you. Remember that

…you’re God’s child. (John 1:12)

…He bought you with a high price. (1 Corinthians 6:19-20)

…you have direct access to the throne of the King. (Hebrews 4:14-16)

…God works all things out for your good. (Romans 8:28)

Just for today, remember that you’re safe in the Lord. Remember that

…you’ve been forgiven of all your sins. (Colossians 1:13-14)

…you can’t be separated from God’s love. (Romans 8:35-39)

…you’re safe from the evil one. (1 John 5:18)

…you have refuge in God. (Psalm 91:1-2)

Just for today, remember that your life has purpose. Remember that

…you have the honor of being God’s servant. (Luke 1:38)

…you’re Christ’s ambassador. (2 Corinthians 5:17-21)

…you’ve been commissioned to declare the praises of Him Who called you out of darkness into His wonderful light. (1 Peter 2:9)

…you were created in Christ Jesus for good works. (Ephesians 2:10)

Just for today, remember that no matter your struggle, God is with you and for you. Remember that

…you’re protected by the Lord of heaven’s armies. (Psalm 46:7 – NLT)

…your God can make a way when there seems to be no way. (Exodus 14)

…your battle belongs to the Lord. (2 Chronicles 20:15)

…your God is on your side. (Psalm 118:6)

Just for today, remember that God is your Healer. Remember that

…your God can heal bodies. (Luke 8:43-48)

…your God can heal minds. (Matthew 11:28-30)

…your God can heal hearts. (Psalm 147:3)

…your God can heal addictions. (Jeremiah 17:14)

Just for today, remember that God is stronger than anything you’re facing. Remember that

…your God is the Creator of heaven and earth – all creation submits to Him. (Nehemiah 9:6)

…your God is all-powerful – nothing can stand against Him. (Jeremiah 32:17)

…your God is just – making all things right in His time. (Psalm 67:4)

…your God is holy – set apart and above all else. (Isaiah 57:15)

Just for today, remember that the suffering of this life is temporary. Remember that

…your troubles are achieving an eternal glory. (2 Corinthians 4:17)

…your perseverance is earning for you a crown of life. (James 1:12)

…an end to every sorrow and pain is on its way. (Revelation 21:4)

…weeping may remain for a night, but rejoicing comes in the morning. (Psalm 30:5b)

So, dear child of God, take your measure of manna, and let it fill you – heart, mind, and soul. Trust that God will get you through the only day you really have. You weren’t made for tomorrow. That’s God’s territory. Your territory is the land of here and now. Your supply of manna is waiting, and it will be enough.
