Please Say “Yes!”

“…I found the one my heart loves.” – Song of Solomon 3:4a

To my forever boyfriend and dearly loved husband,

Will you be my date this evening? Let’s go out for a quiet dinner and enjoy some good food, good conversation, and great company! Let’s dress up a little – skip the jeans and see how well we clean up when we make the effort. I’ll wear that nice perfume that rarely gets taken off the shelf, and you can wear that aftershave that smells so good.

Let’s hold hands when we walk from the car to the restaurant. Let’s be that cute old couple that the young ’uns whisper about and aspire to be like in a few decades. Let’s cozy up in a booth and reflect on this good life that God has given us. Let’s laugh a little and eat dessert slowly.

Let’s talk about the kids and grandkids. Let’s marvel at this beautiful family straight from the hands of God into our world. Let’s lay out our prayers for their futures and for the generations that will come long after we’re gone.

Let’s remember the friends God has sent into our lives over the years. Let’s say their names and see their faces in our minds as we reflect on the hard and happy seasons we’ve shared with them. Let’s just enjoy the warm thoughts of those dear friendships for a few sweet moments.

Let’s talk about the ways God has carried us through this past year. Let me brag on you to your face and tell you how proud of you I am. Let me thank you for doing everything in your power to make my dreams and prayers come true. Let me remind you that you’re the greatest gift other than Jesus that God has given me. Let me kiss you on the cheek.

Let’s ask the server to take our picture before we go home. Let’s squeeze in close and smile big! Let’s drive home with full tummies and full hearts, thankful that this is the life God has given us.

Let’s read our family psalm – Psalm 20 – before we wind down for the night. Let’s put our heads on our pillows, happy-tired from a good day of being together. Let’s let our final thoughts before we fall asleep be gratitude to the Father for the gift of our marriage.

Will you be my date this evening? Please say “Yes!” Being your bride for 41 years is worth a night on the town with the one my heart loves.

Always and forever your girlfriend,

Tiffany
